MIPS Technologies has appointed Mike Uhler, 50, as its first Chief Technology Officer.

MIPS Technologies has appointed Mike Uhler, 50, as its first Chief Technology Officer.

Previously, he served as the Vice President for Systems, Architecture and Software Products at MIPS Technologies.

Uhler brings more than 25 years of engineering experience in the semiconductor and computer industries to his new role as CTO.

In this position, he is responsible for driving the strategy and vision of the MIPS architecture, core and software products and related standards for MIPS Technologies.

"Mike Uhler has provided key technical leadership to MIPS Technologies since joining the company in 1994", said John Bourgoin, Chairman and CEO of MIPS Technologies.

"He has assumed increasing levels of responsibility during this period, and has demonstrated the ability to innovate and manage the growth of the MIPS architecture and its technical ecosystem.

With this promotion he will be the primary leader of MIPS' technical direction".

Uhler has been part of the MIPS management team since 1994, when he joined the MIPS Group of Silicon Graphics.

Prior to that, he spent 15 years at Digital Equipment Corporation, working on SMP operating systems and system design, and as the lead architect for Vax microprocessor chips.

He holds 21 patents in computer architecture, hardware and software design, and has an additional 22 patents pending.

Uhler earned his BSEE and MSCS degrees from the University of Arizona.
