MIPS Technologies now offers hard intellectual property (IP) cores.
MIPS Technologies now offers hard intellectual property (IP) cores Augmenting an already robust product line of synthesisable 32bit cores, the MIPS32 4Kc and 4KEc hard IP cores enable a cost-effective, low-risk and easy way for budget-conscience startups, fabless semiconductor companies, and system OEMs to integrate the high-performance MIPS architecture into digital consumer devices like set-top boxes, digital cameras and digital televisions

MIPS at the core of advanced smart cards
New from MIPS Technologies, the MIPS32 4KSc smart card core is a high-performance, synthesisable embedded 32bit processor core for ultra-low-power advanced smart card applications.
TSMC delivers hard core processors for MIPS fans
MIPS Technologies has announced the availability of "hard core" versions of its MIPS32 4Kc and 4Km 32bit processor cores.
Currently, a 175MHz 4KEc hard core in 0.18um TSMC and a 190MHz 4Kc hard core in 0.18um SMIC are available for direct licensing from the company.
Built using the latest design methodologies, standard cell libraries and memories, these cores represent state-of-the-art hard IP.
The small area of the hard core realises significant cost savings for users and stands out from cores in the equivalent performance class.
Coupled with a robust development environment these hard cores dramatically reduce SoC implementation time.
"Jump starting an SoC design with a high-performance, hard IP core like the 4Kc or 4KEc cores offer tremendous value to customers by reducing design time and expense", said Russ Bell, Vice President of Marketing at MIPS Technologies.
"Not only do our customers reap the benefit of utilising proven technology and performance, they are able to leverage the vibrant ecosystem made up of over 100 million dollars development tools and software supporting the MIPS architecture".
Both hard IP cores are available for licensing today from MIPS Technologies by semiconductor and system companies worldwide.
They are delivered with design kits composed of complete product documentation, design data, verification and simulation models, and include support and training.
MIPS Technologies has partnered with two design centres, CMSC and Socle, either of which can assist licensees in the development of a MIPS-based SoC or with the merging of a MIPS hard IP core into a licensees' SoC in preparation for manufacturing.
Licensing of the hard IP core is done directly through MIPS Technologies.
