Cores chosen for handheld consumer applications
MegaChips LSI Solutions has standardised on the MIPS32 architecture for a range of battery-powered consumer electronics applications.
MegaChips LSI Solutions (MCL) has standardised on the MIPS32 architecture for a range of battery-powered consumer electronics applications.
SoCs based on the MIPS32 4KE core family are expected to ship to system OEMs throughout Japan and Asia by calendar year 2005.
Already the MIPS architecture is powering a range of mobile devices from leading consumer electronics manufacturers due to the technology's ability to deliver high performance using small power budgets.
"We chose the 4KE core family for mobile markets, such as cellular phones and digital cameras, because we believe that we can accelerate design time, manufacturing and customer support more than ever by effectively utilising the wide range of optimised software available on the industry standard MIPS architecture", said Yukihiro Ukai, President of MegaChips LSI Solution.
"Over the past 12 months, we have doubled the number of MIPS licensees in Japan as our architecture continues to gain broad acceptance as the technology of choice for consumer electronics applications", said Jack Browne, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at MIPS Technologies.
"MegaChips is the latest customer who has standardised upon the MIPS architecture to deliver products that will enhance the user experience in a range of battery-powered devices".
"Their choice of a MIPS core further underscores how system design requirements are changing to adopt technology that delivers the unique combination of performance and power at the right cost point".
