MIPS Technologies has announced the availability of "hard core" versions of its MIPS32 4Kc and 4Km 32bit processor cores.
Under the terms of the alliance, MIPS Technologies will provide the hands-on instructor training, leading edge tools, simulation software and documentation required to enable Waseda to develop its own graduate programmes in the MIPS architecture, as well as SoC and embedded software development.
Using the MIPS32 4KE processor cores, students will work on development projects involving media process LSIs and other related technologies integral to the design of next generation digital consumer devices, a market segment where MIPS Technologies enjoys a leadership position and drives performance standards.
"The MIPS architecture is regarded as the de facto standard worldwide, and institutions like Waseda University recognise the need for their graduates to be thoroughly qualified in digital consumer technology", said Kazufumi Nakagami, Country Manager, MIPS Technologies Japan.
"We're delighted to have the opportunity to work in conjunction with Waseda to develop the comprehensive curriculum today's competitive market demands".
"And we'll all reap the benefits of the technology and product development activities that will happen here".
"Waseda University has always taken the lead among Japanese universities in establishing innovative and timely programs for its students", said Dr Takeshi Ikenaga, Associate Professor, Graduate School of Information, Product and Systems, Waseda University.
"We're excited to become the first Japanese university to have the opportunity to train our graduates in the MIPS architecture and MIPS32 cores".
"The skills they acquire will make them highly attractive to the very companies who are current and future MIPS Ecosystem members and licensees".
