MIPS at the core of advanced smart cards
New from MIPS Technologies, the MIPS32 4KSc smart card core is a high-performance, synthesisable embedded 32bit processor core for ultra-low-power advanced smart card applications.
Introduced in May 2005, the MIPS32 24KE family of cores is the first to integrate the MIPS DSP application-specific extension (ASE).
The 24KE core family leverages the high performance 24K microarchitecture and efficiently adds DSP functionality while significantly reducing overall SoC die area, cost, and power consumption.

VeriCall Edge software provides ODMs and OEMs with all of the media processing, packet handling and call control functionality required to create a turnkey VoIP or voice and video over IP (V2IP) solution that supports a range of wired and wireless devices.
VeriCall Edge software allows developers to quickly introduce voice and video functionality into price-sensitive, consumer end-point devices without the need for costly and power-hungry ASICs, digital signal processors (DSPs) or external video accelerators.
Trinity Convergence specifically architected its VeriCall Edge solution to enable the development of single chip, DSP-free communications devices that significantly reduce development costs, design complexity and time to market without compromising on flexibility or performance.
VeriCall Edge software supports a wide range of VoIP and V2IP devices including VoIP phones, video phones, voice/video over Wi-Fi handsets, PDA voice/video phones, dual-mode handsets (cellular plus voice/video over-Wi-Fi), residential gateways, video conferencing units and personal media terminals.
"For OEMs looking to leverage the efficiency and cost savings of a single design environment and accelerate their time to market, this alliance is great news", said Russ Bell, Vice President of Marketing for MIPS Technologies.
"The combination of Trinity's VeriCall Edge software solution and the performance, low power consumption and DSP functionality of our 24KE processor cores will enable them to excel in a cost-sensitive and rapidly evolving marketplace".
"This joint development ultimately increases the breadth and depth of fully-validated VoIP solutions available to SoC designers", said Mark Felice, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Trinity Convergence.
"The MIPS 24KE core helps to satisfy our customers' need for a low-power, single-processor solution in their voice and video over IP equipment designs".
"We believe the integration work we are working on will help to accelerate the deployment of new and compelling consumer VoIP solutions".
