The new TH8065 from Melexis extends its successful LIN transceiver and system basis chip product line for the simple and effective development of LIN slaves.

The LINbus (Local Interconnect Network) continues its successful advance in automotive and industrial applications with the release of LIN version 2.0 and the SAE2602 networking specification This robust, cost effective communication scheme enables many basic networking functions in subsystems previously considered to be uneconomical for smart actuators and controls

The new TH8065 from Melexis extends its successful LIN transceiver and system basis chip (SBC) product line for the simple and effective development of LIN slaves.

This IC combines a physical layer LIN transceiver compliant with LIN 2.0 as well as SAEJ2602 with a 5V/70mA voltage regulator and a reset/watchdog unit.

This combination reduces the LIN system costs and makes it possible to develop simple but powerful and cheap LIN slaves with a direct connection to the 12V boardnet.

This IC is optimised in accordance with the increased EMC requirements for single-wire bus systems.

The TH8065 is the second member of the 2nd generation of LIN system basis ICs of Melexis.

The Melexis TH8065 is produced in a 0.8um HV-CMOS technology and optimised for minimal current consumption as well as excellent EMC behaviour.

The current consumption in standby mode is typically 15uA.

The integrated standby management assures that the TH8065 can "wake up" from the LINbus itself or directly from a connected microcontroller or other external source.

This IC also generates a reset output signal to minimise the external circuitry of the microcontroller.

The power on reset time is programmable from 4ms to 30ms.

The integrated voltage regulator generates output voltage of 5V+/-2% with a maximum load current of 70mA.

For self protection the IC is equipped with an integrated load current limitation, overtemperature shutdown as well as 40V load dump protection.

The EMC behaviour of LINbus ICs is critical in automotive applications.

The TH8065 design exhibits remarkable robustness when subjected to the injection of high frequency disturbances.

The IC has also achieved very low electromagnetic emission to further simplify the design challenges of networked communication in hostile automotive environments.

For the data transmission according J2602 a special low slew mode is available.

With the help of this mode the emission can be further decreased if only half of the LIN bus bandwidth is used.

The TH8065 is qualified in accordance to AECQ100 and ROHS compatible.

It can be soldered up to 260C according to JEDEC 020C.

Samples with SOIC8 package are available.
