Sensors set for launch in Nuremberg

During Sensor + Test 2007 Melexis will release several new products for both medical and industrial applications.
During the 3-day exhibition in Nuremberg (22nd to 24th May 2007) the company will demonstrate a patented technology for joystick position sensing and an improved version of its infra-red thermometer suitable for highly demanding medical applications.
For safety critical joystick applications, the MLX90333 sensor is now available in a fully redundant (dual die) version that will fit exactly the same joystick design as the single die version.
The triaxial MLX90333 sensor IC is fully programmable (output transfer characteristic, analogue/PWM/serial protocol) and has all the protection features required to withstand harsh conditions.
One of the most prominent applications of infra-red thermometers has been the fever measurement in humans.
There are two main types of IR fever thermometers: ear thermometers and forehead thermometers.
For these medical applications, a measurement accuracy of +/-0.1C is needed.
Often such accuracy can only be achieved in small operating temperature ranges and under precisely controlled laboratory conditions.
Last year Melexis introduced the MLX90614 family of digital integrated temperature sensors.
This small and cost effective noncontact thermometer delivers a fully calibrated, digital infra-red temperature reading.
An infra-red sensor and a custom signal conditioning chip are integrated in one TO-can package.
Now Melexis has expanded the MLX90614 family with the MLX90614DAA.
This 3V device delivers the +/-0.1C measurement accuracy in the object temperature range of 36-39C and a wide ambient temperature range 20-30C.
The sleep mode option with a sleep current in the order of microamps make this device highly suited for battery operated applications.
The MLX90614 family is qualified in accordance to AECQ100 and is RoHS compatible.
It can be soldered up to 260C according to JEDEC 020C.
Melexis can be found on Stand 314 in Hall 7 during Sensor + Test 2007.
