Workshop to address UK strategy for
microsystems
A special event to be held at Cranfield University will address the future of microsystems in the UK and its importance to our industry.
What is the future of microsystems in the UK and what is its importance to our industry? These important questions will form the core of a special event to be held at Cranfield University and jointly sponsored by the Microsystems Manufacturing Association (MMA) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) The one-day workshop scheduled for 12th November will include speakers from both industry and academia

Leading UK engineering and technology firms, with a combined multi-million pound spend on training and development, will assemble at the IEE 'Investing in Technical Teams' forum on 4 November 2004.
Its aim is to promote better communications between academics involved in MEMS research and industrialists keen to exploit this technology for UK wealth generation.
The emphasis will be on ensuring an interactive event beginning with an overview of the UK MEMS market given by MMA chairman Dr Hugh Clare of Unilever.
The European scene will be covered by Dr Ayman El-Fatatory, BAe Systems, while Professor Roger Whatmore, Director of Cranfield Nanotechnology Centre, will address current academic thinking.
A final session, presented by the EPSRC will consider a microsystems technology (MST) strategy for the UK.
At this stage delegates will have the opportunity to contribute to the debate through a series of group sessions, designed to identify potential research areas.
Cost of the workshop, including refreshments and a buffet lunch, is GBP 65 (+ vat) but numbers are restricted to 100.
