New aluminium organic capacitors from Micromark C and CD sustain their capacitance at high operating frequencies, thereby enabling component count and system cost savings.

New aluminium organic capacitors from Micromark C and CD sustain their capacitance at high operating frequencies, thereby enabling component count and system cost savings Applications include low voltage, high current power supplies for equipment such as desktop PCs and set top boxes

Compared with alternative technologies including tantalum, ceramic and wet-electrolytic, the Kemet AO-CAP from Micromark C and CD delivers an improved combination of ESR and volumetric efficiency (C/V), and eliminates the dryout related failure mode of wet electrolytics.

The structure uses aluminium as the anode material, aluminium oxide as the dielectric and a conductive organic polymer as the cathode material.

This enables a true surface mount solution resistant to the reflow process.

The industry-standard EIA 7343-20, 7343-31 and 7343-43 packages also feature a moulded case and wraparound terminations, yielding high protection against cracking.

The AO-CAP technology also delivers excellent surge current performance and does not require de-rating of the application voltage to reduce failure rate.

The operating temperature range is -55 to +125C, with approximate capacitance shift of +/-15% over the range.

Micromark C and CD is stocking the Kemet A700 series AO-CAPs from 47 to 390uF in EIA 7343 surface-mount packages.

The A700 series are lead-free devices.
