Clip gets a grip on thermal management
Micromark C and CD has a novel patented screwless clip to enhance the thermal performance and reliability of power electronic components when attached to heatsinks.
Micromark C and CD has added a new patented screwless clip to enhance the thermal performance and reliability of power electronic components when attached to heatsinks, following a recently signed distribution agreement with Aavid Thermalloy The Aavid Thermalloy Max Clip System from Micromark C and CD replaces the traditional screw or rivet fixing with a custom designed clip, which applies an optimal mounting force directly above the centre of the silicon to minimise overall thermal resistance

Organic capacitors perform better for longer
New aluminium organic capacitors from Micromark C and CD sustain their capacitance at high operating frequencies, thereby enabling component count and system cost savings.
Supercapacitors deliver low ESR at high pulserates
Designers can now achieve the energy, power and capacitance density of supercapacitors without the high ESR or loss of capacitance at high pulse repetition rates that hinder traditional devices.
Thermal efficiency is further enhanced as component tilting, which can be caused by non-axial pressure, is also eliminated.
Mechanical stresses on the component are also reduced, thereby improving component reliability and eliminating damage caused by over tightening.
The clip also prevents the component loosening through vibration, and allows for movement of thermal interface material installed between the component and the heatsink.
Further benefits include faster, easier assembly and the elimination of operator errors such as over- or under-tightening.
The Max Clip System is also better suited to automated assembly, reducing manufacturing time and cost for high volume products.
The Max Clip System includes over 50 different heatsink extrusion profiles and 20 different mounting clips are currently available to serve package styles including TO-220, TO-218, TO-247 and TO-3P, in a wide variety of applications.
The Max Clip System clips are made from nickel-plated steel for strength and durability.
Heatsinks are extruded from aluminium and can be supplied in bright or black anodised finish.
The Max Clip System is covered by worldwide patents and is endorsed by major power semiconductor manufacturers, many of whom now produce power transistors in holeless packages for which Aavid Thermalloy originally created the Max Clip System.
Micromark C and CD supports the full range of Max Clip System clips and heatsink profiles, and will add new variants as Aavid Thermalloy continues to add new profiles and clip styles.
