Portable memories accommodate more data

A Micromark C and CD product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Apr 9, 2003

Micromark C and CD has new ranges of Secure Digital (SD) and Multimedia Flash memory cards together with supporting connectors.

To meet the growing demand for greater storage capacity of data, video and audio in portable medical and instrumentation applications Micromark C and CD is adding new Secure Digital (SD) and Multimedia Flash memory cards together with supporting connectors.

Advanced medical devices benefit from the SD card's sophisticated copyright protection functions approved by the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) incorporated to protect copyrighted data as well as the Write Protect Switch which prevents data deletion errors.

The new compact, highly secure Flash memory SD cards from Toshiba weigh approximately 2g, offer up to 256Mbyte of storage capacity and measure just 32 x 24 x 2.1mm.

The SD cards incorporate a Toshiba 2Gbit NAND Flash memory device to give high-speed data transfer at 2Mbyte/s, allowing fast storage of heavy downloaded digital files.

The data transfer rate can be increased to 10Mbyte/s.

Micromark C and CD's range of ultrasmall MMC multimedia cards from Hitachi weigh just 1.5g, provide up to 128Mbyte of storage capacity and measure 32 x 24 x 1.4mm.

The MMCs incorporate Hitachi's Multi Level Cell AND type Flash memory and a controller to give the industry's fastest data transfer speeds from 6.4 to 12.8Mbyte/s.

To complement these new styles of card storage, Micromark C and CD is stocking connector options including devices from manufacturers such as AVX and Hirose.

Top and bottom mount versions either with or without ejector features are supported by Micromark C and CD's applications team.

Connectors incorporate guide rails to prevent direct contact between the card and board as well as a card detection feature, are guaranteed for 10,000 mating cycles and are operational from -25 to +90C.

Secure Digital connectors have a low profile of just 2.9mm and accept both SD and MMC cards.
