New smoothing capacitor technology from Micromark C and CD offers designers of switch mode power supplies reduced costs, higher reliability and longer life.

New smoothing capacitor technology from Micromark C and CD offers designers of switch mode power supplies reduced costs, higher reliability and longer life The new Panasonic FM series of aluminium electrolytic capacitors from Micromark C and CD is ideal for secondary smoothing of the switching power supply in digital household electronics, audio/video equipment and PC servers

This series incorporates a newly developed highly conductive electrolyte solution and low-density separator to achieve lower impedance and hence reduced heat generation resulting in higher reliability and a longer life for the component.

These advances contribute to the miniaturisation and higher efficiency of switching power supplies, as well as to the reduction in the bill of materials for cost reducing designs.

The FM range is available with nominal capacitances ranging from 22 to 6800uF and impedance values from 14 to 340mohm at 100kHz, offering ESR 40-70% lower than previous Panasonic devices.

The allowed ripple current ranges from 250mA RMS at 100kHz for the 22uF version up to 3820mA RMS at 100kHz for the 6800uF option, representing a 50% improvement over the earlier FC range.

Sizes available range from 5mm diameter by 11.00mm high up to 16mm diameter by 25mm high with operating voltages from 6.3 to 50V and are guaranteed for 3-7kh between -40 and +105C.

All devices in the range are free from both PVC and lead.
