A new space-saving system takes audio and video signals onto a PCB using the minimum of board area while maintaining signal integrity.

A new space-saving system takes audio and video signals onto a PCB using the minimum of board area while maintaining signal integrity Using the new 3M connectors from Micromark C and CD, signals sourced from BNC type connectors on a backplane can be terminated either to a Monosignal mini coaxial PCB connector for permanent attachment to the board, or to a header (either standard or shielded controlled impedance) to give a detachable connection

Previously, a much bulkier BNC type connector would have been required at the PCB end also.

The 3M Monosignal 2-pin mini-coaxial PCB connector (type 51 and 53) is the most compact solution, and is supplied as a complete assembly.

Based on a 2.54mm centre spacing, the connector stands just under 4mm above the board, is side-stackable, and can be soldered direct to the board.

It features moulded-in strain relief, and is available with 50 or 75ohm impedance.

Where a detachable connection is to be achieved, Micromark C and CD offers the 3M SCI (shielded controlled impedance) cable assemblies, again on a 2.54mm spacing, for mating with standard 3M two-pin headers.

Supplied as completed assemblies, the assemblies are available as stand-alone or straight versions, or a "carrier" version for use with the 3M SCI carrier system.

Micromark C and CD is supporting the new range with a full range of 3M SCI assembly hardware, including the 2-row carrier housing, 3-row carrier housing, 2-pin header latch and 4x35 carrier housing.
