Double-datarate modules step up a gear at CeBIT
At this year's CeBIT, Memorysolution will show off the first engineering samples of its new DDR2 memory technology.
Both technologies prevent errors when transferring data into and out of RAM.
A register chip on each module buffers the transferred data and then passes them along with a one-cycle delay but a clear signal.
ECC, on the other hand, is a test routine that forms a checksum and attaches it to the data.
This is how bit errors, or changes to the value of a bit caused by external influences or malfunctions, can be identified and then fixed in some cases.
ECC modules can detect up to two bit errors and correct individual ones.
"We decided to enter the server module market because we anticipate that, with the introduction of DDR2 next year, there will be fewer DDR1 modules available", explains Gerald Diercks, Managing Director of MemorySolution.
"As a specialist for memory enhancements, it is really important for us to continue offering high-quality and compatible products for the current server generations in the years ahead.
It is also important to keep in mind that AMD has further increased demand for these RAM products with its 64bit processors like the Opteron".
Here too MemorySolution is sticking with the principle of cautious market introduction.
Quality assurance in layout and production methods have priority over sales considerations.
"Of course, we have already had advance requests for DDR333 with ECC register", explains Gerald Diercks.
"But this is a big technological step for MemorySolution even if the technologies aren't new.
We would rather take one step at a time.
Corresponding DDR333 memories (PC2700) are in the prep stages but they act as the current reference point for technical advances in module design.
This is why we want to be sure that they can be manufactured with the same high level of quality as all other takeMS memory products".
takeMS DDR266 ECC registered RAM is available for sale immediately.
