Framework enables design re-use at STM

A Magillem Design Services product story

A custom IP-Xact framework developed by MDS enables STMicroelectronics to integrate all its system platform technologies into a consistent environment.

Magillem Design Services is helping STMicroelectronics to deliver innovative solutions based on the IP-Xact schema from the SPIRIT Consortium.

ST Microelectronics, the largest semiconductor maker in Europe, with design centres all over the world, needed to facilitate a broad use of virtual platform assembly for multiple remote nonexpert end users and enabling fast deployment of virtual components.

With a Magillem graphical front end connected to the internal IP yellow pages, the learning curve of a new platform has been significantly shortened.

Software end users get the exact representation of the hardware and can easily change the virtual component parameters they have access to.

STMicroelectronics, a founding member of the SPIRIT Consortium, was looking for a software tool to encapsulate its existing ESL flow in the IP-Xact format, some ST specific data also had to be captured in the schema.

Graphical representation of a dedicated platform had to be tuned to the ST guidelines.

With the help of the Magillem IDE, all the steps of the flow have been encapsulated in a standard IP-Xact format.

The representation of the platform and the dedicated flow monitoring meet the company requirements.

"Designers at STM now have the capability to run the software with a minimal effort, at every build and compilation steps".

"All IP and platform parameters are accessible without HDL or SystemC expertise".

"The state-of-the-art TLM flow of STMicroelectronics is one of the most advanced ones and we are proud to display this powerful integration in our user friendly, easy to learn graphical front end", says Cyril Spasevski, CTO of Magillem Design Services.

"The IP-Xact framework developed by MDS enables us to integrate all our system platform technologies into a consistent environment, providing a simpler, more automated flow to hardware architects and verification engineers".

"Feedback from first users is very positive and we expect to deploy the solution throughout the year", says Frank Ghenassia, Director of System Platform Group at STMicroelectronics.
