The D4 is a double-Eurocard CompactPCI SBC designed with performance and onboard functionality for applications in the upper end of industrial control, instrumentation and communications.

The D4 is a CompactPCI single-board computer in double Eurocard format designed with performance and onboard functionality for applications in the upper end of industrial control, instrumentation and communications The D4 gets its performance from the Pentium 4 "Northwood", a new mobile processor from Intel's embedded line with clock frequencies between 1.7 and 2.2GHz

The Pentium 4 is coupled with the "Brookdale" chipset also from the embedded line, which includes a memory controller, I/O controller hub, super I/O controller and 400MHz local bus clock.

The MEN D4 provides up to 1Gbyte of 200MHz DDRAM through an SO-DIMM slot with onboard CompactFlash allowing further, flexible memory expansion.

The SBC has a graphics controller feeding a DVI-I port on the front panel which allows connection of digital TFTs as well as of analogue screens.

Dual Ethernet (Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet), USB, COM1 and keyboard/mouse interfaces are also available at the D4's front panel.

Connections for COM2, another Gigabit Ethernet, two USB ports, LPT and floppy are brought to the rear I/O adapter.

An IDE hard disk can be mounted directly on the D4.

For flexible configuration using additional I/O components, the D4 either provides two PC-MIP slots or one PMC slot.

The signals of all mezzanine cards are available both at the front and at the rear I/O adapter.

To make the D4's functionality complete, it also includes a real-time clock, watchdog timer and temperature monitoring.

Software support for the D4 includes Windows, Linux, QNX, RTX and VxWorks.

The D4 supports 64bit transfers at 66MHz on the CompactPCI bus together with full hot swap.

It can be a system-slot board or a peripheral-slot card in multiprocessing applications.

As a PXI system controller, the board has the same features plus all additional eight trigger lines in accordance with the PXI specification.

The D4 is one of the first CompactPCI boards to provide Ethernet via the backplane through the J3 connector and thus complies with the requirements of PICMG 2.16.

The rear I/O adapter for the D4 was developed to comply with the CompactPCI standard.
