The rapid growth in optoelectronics is to be a major feature of this year's Photonex exhibition on 8th and 9th October.

Photonex, which has shown continual expansion since it began 12 years ago, is returning to its traditional venue at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire.

Nearly 100 companies are already confirmed to participate and, for the first time, the event will also include an Imaging Science Exhibition within it.

"Photonex has grown to become the premier event of its kind in the UK and is indeed now well recognised on the European calendar of events" says Exhibition Director Laurence Devereux.

He adds, "Optoelectronics will be an increasing component of the show this year and generally the sheer breadth of optics and photonics covered far exceeds anything we have seen before".

While Photonex concentrates on the scientific and industrial application of light, the Imaging Science Exhibition within it will be showing examples of the applied use of the technology in the marketplace.

Such companies and organisations have been at Photonex in the past, but this will be the first time there has been a special area dedicated to it.

There has been an increasing level of interest from international companies in 2003.

One new exhibitor is Micos of Germany, which specialises in optomechanical products and positioning systems.

"I first exhibited with another German company at Photonex in 1999 and it was extremely successful.

Photonex proved to be the best way to introduce our company on the UK market", said Dr Wolfgang Meienburg, Director, Sales and Applications, at Micos.

"A key feature of Photonex is the quality and relevance of the visitors and so we are very confident that once again the show will deliver the return on investment we are looking for".

Photonex03 is organised by Xmark Media.
