With its small form-factor pluggable (SFP) system, Molex can now offer a full line of copper and optical products that enable high-speed data transfer up to 2.5Gbit/s.

With its small form-factor pluggable (SFP) system, Molex can now offer a full line of copper and optical products that enable high-speed data transfer up to 2.5Gbit/s The SFP system builds on the Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) standard providing higher density and increased data transfer rates

The system supports leading edge, high performance protocols, including Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, InfiniBand and additional proprietary high-speed links.

Applications for the system include network switches, routers, servers, storage devices, network interface cards (NICs) and host bus adapters (HBAs).

Molex's SFP system is compliant with the SFP industry multisource agreement (MSA).

By populating the network equipment with the Molex cage, the SFP system offers flexibility, scalability, and low installed cost to the users.

By inserting the appropriate hot pluggable transceiver modules, users can meet the bandwidth and distance requirements at installation and upgrade at any time.

The system's 20-position SMT connector is enclosed by a low-profile metal cage engineered to guide and secure industry-standard mating modules.

The pluggable modules, both the duplex LC optical and HSSDC2 copper transceivers, extend hot-swapping capabilities along with copper patch cables.

The system also provides a wide variety of optical and HSSDC2 cable assemblies.

Offering both fibre and copper products, the SFP system modules can be exchanged according to performance and cost variables.

The system provides flexibility for short and long distance applications.

Copper patch cables can be used in short distance rack applications up to 10 metres, the copper SFP module up to 30m, and the LC optical transceivers based on 850mm VCSEL technology provide link distances up to 550m.

With short-reach optical and copper transceivers, copper patch cords, EMI cages and 20-pin SFP electrical connectors, along with HSSDC2 and dual LC optical connector and cable assemblies, Molex is offering a broad range of products for SFP system solutions.
