Connector system saves space in the dock
The CradleCon connector system offers a compact solution for applications using a cradle docking function such as digital cameras, audio players, mobile phones and other portable consumer items.
The new CradleCon connector system from Molex offers one of the most compact solutions for applications using a cradle docking function such as digital cameras, audio players, mobile phones and other portable consumer items.
The dual-row 0.50mm-pitch CradleCon system provides about 50% space saving compared with previous single-row docking solutions, as well as a more compact form factor than most competitive dual-row systems.
The CradleCon is available in a variety of SMT board-to-board options and custom cable versions.
The board-to-board types feature right angle PCB plugs most often used on the equipment side, and straight and right angle PCB receptacles used on docking units.
The custom cable versions are offered in both straight and right angle versions, which can be used for such functions as USB, AV jack and power charge.
Available in 14-36 circuits the new connectors present the largest circuit size range on the market for a miniature docking system to enable signal and power options.
The PCB pattern layout of the CradleCon system provides significant space saving.
The system includes a dual-row staggered SMT pattern, which is easier to solder and does not increase in size incrementally as quickly as inline solder patterns.
PCB plugs feature SMT and through-hole solder tabs which bring grounding support, secure board retention and strain relief for SMT tails.
Other features include chamfered lead-ins to facilitate blind mating, friction mating locks and polarising keys.
Side grounding fingers offer additional shell grounding and ESD/EMI protection.
Additionally, long contact wipe length and gold plating dispense durability and secure electrical contact.
The CradleCon system includes a metal shutter version that gives protection against both dust and debris as well as ESD/EMI.
Furthermore, the system features embossed tape packaging and pick-and-place tape for robotic insertion.
