Molex has introduced a range of high-density FFC/FPC connectors designed for flat panel displays (FPD) and other applications.

These large circuit size connectors offer robustness, ease-of-use and low applied costs, which makes them ideal for FPD applications that sometimes require up to 1000 signal lines per unit to support extremely high resolution flat-screen picture clarity.

Molex's smallest pitch size of the family is a 0.30mm version that includes staggered tails to achieve its compact 90-circuit design.

This version provides one of the largest circuit size options of any 0.30mm pitch type in the market today.

Molex also offers several 0.40mm pitch types from 80 to 120 circuits.

These versions feature Molex's unique BackFlip actuator design, which rotates to 90 degrees and enables easier cable insertion than many front-actuation designs.

More features facilitate cable insertion including a top/bottom contact design and an internal pre-hold cable feature.

These large circuit size versions are used mainly in high-density plasma display panel (PDP) applications.

They include a reinforced actuator design that has proven to be more durable that competitive versions in large circuit-size applications.

Molex can propose a wide variety of circuit sizes for its 0.50mm pitch, high-density FFC/FPC family, ranging from 40 to 98.

The new pitch family features several versions which are unique to the market, such as a dust-cover type that avoids contact with metal debris, and would cause damage or short-circuiting during panel assembly; a new ultra-compact version, the smallest of its kind in today's market with a profile height of 2.50mm and depth of 4.80mm; and finally a vertical type with dual-row contact that enables cable insertion from various parts of the board.

The new low-profile version also offers an improved tactile 'click' feature so that users can tell when it is fully actuated.

For low voltage differential signal (LVDS) television applications, Molex provides several types of 0.50mm pitch, high-density connectors that use the more cost-effective flat flexible cable (FFC) versus flexible printed circuitry (FPC) cable for the other panel display applications.

These versions can handle up to 1.2Gps and include a ground plane for good impedance control.

Also available in this range are a 1.80mm low-profile type, as well as a vertical version with front-style 'easy-on' actuator that rotates to 110 degrees for easy cable insertion.

These versions can be used for any type of differential signal application in devices ranging from game units and PCs to car navigation equipment.
