0.40mm-pitch board-to-board connectors feature a J-shaped SMT tail that provides 35% PCB width space savings versus standard gullwing style tails.

To meet the growing market demands of smaller electronic devices, Molex has expanded its SlimStack product line to include the new J-lead SMT connectors These 0.40mm pitch board-to-board connectors feature a J-shaped SMT tail that provides 35% PCB width space savings versus standard gullwing style tails

With the smallest height, pitch and width combinations available to the market, the J-lead SlimStack connectors are manufactured in stack heights of 0.90, 1.30, 1.50 and 1.70mm.

This design flexibility makes the connectors suitable for a variety of applications, including mobile phones, digital video and still cameras, MP3 players, barcode scanners and handheld GPS systems, as well as portable medical, military and printing devices.

"As the demand for compact electronic devices continues to increase, Molex strives to offer its customers interconnect solutions that meet these ever-shrinking requirements", says Joe Falcone, Regional Product Manager, Micro Division, Molex.

"Our new J-lead SlimStack is one of the smallest board-to-board connector systems available to the market that offers value to customers looking for a high-speed and high density solution that yields 100 mated pairs per inch length in a microminiature footprint".

Other features of the system include a bottom mould design which allows circuits to be traced on the underside of the connector.

Longer wipe lengths and gold-plated contacts provide high contact reliability and good signal integrity.

The J-lead system's user-friendly design is available with various locking features that provide secure mating retention and a tactile click feeling during mating.

Additionally, the connector's short, straight signal path is compatible with high-speed design specifications required by many portable electronics.
