The EXTreme PowerMass Connector is one of the highest capacity board-to-board connectors on the market, with multiple capacity power modules and a wide signal count capability.

Molex has released the EXTreme Power series of high-current interconnect solutions offer best in class power densities The extensive product portfolio ranges from EXTreme MicroPower 16.0A blades to EXTreme PowerMass 150.0A modules

Mike Bean, Product Manager, Molex said "Since no two applications are the same, the EXTreme Power family includes several products that cover a wide range of current levels, mechanical envelopes, mating terminations and configuration choices; giving system designers the ability to maximise their power interconnect needs".

The EXTreme Power series from Molex includes seven new products: the EXTreme PowerMass connector, the EXTreme LPHPower connector, the EXTreme PowerEdge connector, the EXTreme ZPower connector, the EXTreme MicroPower high-current header, the EXTreme PowerPlus (SSI) connector and the EXTreme PowerBBC connector.

The EXTreme PowerMass Connector is one of the highest capacity board-to-board connectors on the market, with multiple capacity power modules (150, 80 and 40A) and a wide signal count capability (12 to 64 circuits).

The EXTreme PowerMass connector suits challenging thermal-constrained spaces found in telecommunications, high and mid-range computers, power supplies and mobile communications applications.

Since this connector can be assembled on a metal stiffener backbone, modules can be placed in any position with almost any centreline spacing.

This gives engineers the freedom to pack a design as tightly as possible, or open the spacing between any or all of the modules to enhance system airflow.

Additionally, if an application calls for only one or two modules, the EXTreme PowerMass product can be mounted individually without the use of the stiffener.

EXTreme LPHPower Connector is a mixed, high-current power and signal connector system that picks up where traditional connectors leave off.

Designed with power blades parallel to the PC board, its height of only 7.50mm allows greater system airflow while taking up 53% less space than traditional connectors with the same current rating.

The receptacle and plug headers have isolated upper and lower power blades in two to five bays.

The power blades are rated up to 30A.

The receptacle has the flexibility to mate with either an EXTreme LPHPower plug header or a 1.57mm-thick card edge.

Both the plug and receptacle headers use reliable, Molex EBBI signal contacts available from 12 to 40 in four-circuit increments.

The EXTreme PowerEdge Connector incorporates Molex' high-performance terminal contacts with redundant interface points for optimum mating of double-sided card edge gold fingers.

For high-current requirements, the EXTreme PowerEdge connector offers a 40A rating per contact.

It is a low-profile power card edge interface for applications in telecommunications, high and mid-range computing, uninterruptible power supplies, mobile communications and DC/DC conversion.

The signal contacts permit the EXTreme PowerEdge connector to mate with a combination of power and signal traces on a double-sided card edge.

Signal circuits have been incorporated into assemblies with signal segments only and mixed power and signal segments.

The signal only assemblies are available in two, three and four-segment connectors, consisting of eight signal circuits per segment, in either solder or press-fit tail versions.

The mixed-power and signal assemblies are available in two, three and four-segment connectors with power and signal segments contained in the same assembly, also available in either solder or press-fit tail versions.

The EXTreme ZPower Connector is a high-current, rigid, board-to-board and wire-to-board mezzanine style interconnect designed to transfer power loads from one PCB to another.

Anchored to the baseboard with press-fit power pins, the top board is screwed securely down from the top.

The EXTreme ZPower connector not only transfers power between boards, but can double as an effective stand-off.

50 and 30A versions can be used in a variety of applications and industries where power connection between parallel boards is necessary in a very small space.

The EXTreme MicroPower high-current header is used in voltage regulator module (VRM)/DC/DC convertors or any board-to-board application where power transfer is needed through a nonseparable interface in a compact design.

The EXTreme MicroPower header offers a higher current density, rated at 16.0A per blade at 30C T-rise, while its low profile design of 4.17mm off the PCB enhances system airflow.

These headers are available in circuit sizes ranging from 4 to 24 blades in a single-row configuration, with voided circuits available to allow for use in high-voltage applications.

EXTreme PowerPlus (SSI) Connector - an expandable power and signal connector that conforms to the server system infrastructure (SSI) open specification, as well as many power and signal combinations beyond those covered in the SSI standard.

The EXTreme PowerPlus connector system is rated at 30A per power blade and can be made in specified power and signal combinations to suit the application.

The connector system features recessed signal-pins and sequential mating (Last-Mate-First-Break or LMFB) that allows the hot-swapping of power supply units on the male side.

The receptacle could also provide for LMFB with a recessed power blade.

The selection options include any number of power (up to 20) or signal (up to 128) contacts, the ability to place power or signal at different locations, fork lock or screw mount options, AC or DC current, guide post options, standard and long power blades.

Molex offers standard through-hole right angle headers and receptacles as well as through-hole and press-fit vertical receptacles.

The EXTreme PowerBBC Connector is a compact, high-current connector for direct mating of power bus bars typically found in power supply or power distribution applications.

Rated up to 320A, the EXTreme PowerBBC connector offers over 20% more current than similar products already available on the market.

In addition, its high-performance contact design is rated for current interruption to match true hot-plugging requirements.
