New UKAS-accredited lab for California

A Micom Labs product story

Micom Labs has formally opened its headquarters in Pleasanton, California.

Micom Labs has formally opened its headquarters in Pleasanton, California.

A testing and certification laboratory for radio frequency (RF) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) compliance testing, Micom Labs provides a range of consulting, testing and reporting services for companies developing wireless, telecommunications, medical and security products and systems.

Before a new wireless, telecommunications or similar electronics product can be sold, its developer/manufacturer must demonstrate that the product meets regulatory standards.

In a global marketplace this requirement is complex, as standards governing compliance vary from country to country.

Best practice calls for the company to have the product tested by an independent laboratory that can report test data acceptable in more than one country as traceable, reliable and accurate.

Micom Labs' test data are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS), an organisation renowned both for its stringent accreditation requirements and its multilateral recognition agreements (MRAs) with a large number of in-country regulatory agencies.

As a result of the range of the UKAS MRAs, UKAS-accredited data have been accepted throughout Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.

As a UKAS-accredited laboratory, Micom Labs shares in this global acceptance of test data.

This global reach is further underscored by Micom Labs' listings with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Industrie Canada and the Voluntary Control Council for Interference (VCCI) of Japan.

Based on recently completed accreditation reviews of its performance and processes, Micom Labs is accredited to perform compliance testing for a wide range of wireless products, including point-to-point and point-to-multipoint microwave radios for fixed and mobile communications networks; identification and similar devices that emit radio frequency (RF) signals; telecommunications equipment; medical equipment and devices (including medical devices incorporating RF communication) and a range of security systems.

In addition to performing testing in its Pleasanton laboratory, Micom Labs can provide testing in client facilities if desired.

"Although a new company started in 2002, Micom Labs has well established credentials and experience with testing products for global markets", commented President and CEO Gordon Hurst.

Hurst previously established and operated StratestLabs, a wireless compliance laboratory within San Jose-based Stratex Networks.

When Hurst migrated StratestLabs to independent-company status, he re-established the company as Micom Labs.

"Our extensive experience with existing clients located throughout California and as far away as New Zealand has allowed us to quick-start our operations and attract new clients as well", Hurst said.

"We are extremely pleased to centre our operations in Pleasanton where we are convenient to San Francisco, East Bay, Sacramento and Silicon Valley companies".
