A new Gartner Dataquest report ranks the Semiconductor Products Sector of Motorola as the market-share leader in ICs for communications systems.

A new Gartner Dataquest report ranks the Semiconductor Products Sector of Motorola as the market-share leader in ICs for communications systems, highlighting Motorola's leadership in the fast-growing networking and communications market Motorola's communications ICs include PowerPC host processors, C-5 network processors, PowerQUICC integrated communications processors, DragonBall processors, and RF and baseband transceivers based on advanced gallium arsenide technology

According to Gartner Dataquest's report: "Communications semiconductor and optical component market share in 2000", the communications semiconductor market, excluding optical components, grew 41.5% in 2000.

Motorola continued to be the largest supplier, shipping over $4 billion of semiconductors in 2000.

Many industry analysts predict that the market for wired and wireless semiconductors will triple over the next five years, reaching $110 billion by 2005.

Motorola is aligned around this opportunity, focusing on continuing to deliver innovative broadband, Internet and wireless solutions to customers around the world.

"Communications and networking solutions are replacing the personal computer as the driver of semiconductor technology and revenue growth", said Fred Shlapak, president of Motorola's semiconductor business.
