Motorola has shipped its first five billion 68HC05 8bit microcontrollers, making it the only manufacturer to date to have shipped such large quantities of a single product line.

Motorola is developing a family of microcontrollers for the driver information systems (DIS) market.
Electrolux uses Motorola's microcontrollers in a variety of appliances including refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines and ovens.
Electrolux appliance brands include Electrolux, AEG, Zanussi, Husqvarna, Frigidaire, Eureka and Weed Eater.

In fact, Gartner Dataquest expects two-thirds of all MCUs shipped through 2004 to be eight bits in width".
