"Freescale's QUICCsupply devices present a very interesting and significant new addition to the processor power market", said Chris Ambarian, Senior Analyst in Power Management with iSuppli Corporation.
"They are flexible enough to provide many control and sequencing options when used with many other processors, while being custom-tailored to make powering Freescale's latest processor line quick and simple".
"It's a great product strategy".
Manufactured with Freescale's proprietary Smartmos process, QUICCsupply ICs include key features such as power sequencing, voltage margining, system protection, programmable output, reset and watchdog functions.
The MC34703 dual output power supply IC has a 10A synchronous buck convertor with integrated high-current low-on-resistance MOSFET, and a low dropout (LDO) controller that works with a choice of external MOSFETs.
For applications ranging from telecom and network cards to industrial controllers, the MC34703's innovative integration of logic and power minimises the need for external components, which reduces the board space required by up to 50% and supports switching speeds up to 400kHz.
The MC34703 QUICCsupply 3 power IC is currently available in production quantities at a suggested resale price of US $3.75 in 10,000-piece quantities.
Adjustable output MC34703 evaluation boards are available now for a suggested resale price of US $100.30.
The KIT34703PNBEVBE development tool incorporates 10-turn precision trimmer potentiometers that enable individual adjustment of V-OUT and V-LDO to the desired voltages.
The KIT34703PNBEVBE board also includes LED indicators for both regulator outputs, and jumper positions to easily select the desired voltage power-up/power-down sequencing.
Board dimensions measure 38 x 21mm.
