A MPC Data product story

MPC Data has announced the only Windows CE 5.0 board support package currently available for the recently introduced Texas Instruments OMAP 5912 OSK development platform.

Innovative software solutions provider MPC Data has announced the only Windows CE 5.0 board support package (BSP) currently available for the recently introduced Texas Instruments OMAP 5912 OSK development platform.

The fully featured BSP has been developed to provide a rapid solution for designers wishing to evaluate the capabilities of the OMAP 5912 without making a large initial investment.

The BSP enables custom implementation of Microsoft's real-time embedded operating system, allowing designers to spend more time on the important product differentiators of hardware and application layer software.

An Ethernet interface is included for access to the development environment along with an Ethernet boot-loader for independent operation.

LCD and touch-screen support is provided for better visibility and accessibility while application-specific connection options include a CompactFlash connector and a JTAG port for emulation and debug.

CE 5.0 production quality OAL components are also supplied to give designers the easiest possible introduction to any project.

CE 5.0 is arguably the most popular operating system for embedded applications in the European market, and MPC Data has developed this BSP in response to findings from its recent customer survey that indicated extensive demand for CE 5.0 support.

Windows CE 5.0 strongly complements the OMAP processor and the easy introduction that is provided by the BSP could be the deciding factor in many purchasing decisions.

"Texas Instruments currently see greater demand in their home market for Linux on the 5912, but we believe that this is partly due to the lack of a Windows CE BSP for that part".

"As a European software developer ourselves, we certainly see extensive demand for Windows CE 5.0 support for the OMAP 5912 processor in Europe", states Steve Harper, Managing Director of MPC Data.

He continues: "Our Windows CE BSP will allow designers to minimise development time and effort and therefore will lead to substantial cost savings".

The initial version of the BSP is available immediately, at a very competitive price.

MPC Data has exclusive European distribution rights and the board can be obtained directly from the company.

MPC Data will offer full support throughout the development cycle as well as ongoing support services for the BSP if required.

All support services will be customised to match individual clients' needs.

The feature-rich OMAP 5912 is one of Texas Instruments' most recent offerings, featuring dual-core processing with both an ARM9 and a DSP operating at 192MHz.

32Mbyte of DDR SDRAM and 32Mbyte of Flash ROM are integrated to support the processor.

Many communication options are included; an RS232 port provides a serial interface and a 10Mbit/s Ethernet port and a USB host port are available for other connection options.

"Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 is the ideal cost-effective operating system for virtually all embedded devices".

"It offers programmers a familiar interface, reducing the need for specialised training", states Doug Follett, Channel Manager EMEA, Microsoft.

He continues: "MPC Data is one of the largest companies in Europe to be awarded Gold-level Partner status for system integration and are therefore the ideal company to develop and support this product in the European market due to its experience of developing literally hundreds of Windows projects".

"MPC Data is a long-term partner of Texas Instruments and is an OMAP Technology Centre".

"As such, they have early and extensive access to TI technology and support, which guarantees that any company evaluating the OMAP 5912 is in the best hands, both in terms of the quality of product and support available", says Andy Richardson, BDM, North Europe, Texas Instruments.
