MicroEmissive Displays will start commissioning and qualification of its new production plant in the Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden early in 2007.

MicroEmissive Displays (MED) will start commissioning and qualification of its new production plant in the Fraunhofer IPMS in Dresden early in 2007.

The move comes following the on-time handover of the purpose built cleanroom and delivery of the tool set from ANS Korea.

In addition the first new employees to be based in Dresden started work in December.

"I am delighted that the build-up to full production is going to plan".

"We are seeing growth in our target markets due to the progress of entertainment on the move services".

"With full production still on schedule for mid-2007, MED will be well placed to take advantage of that progress", said Bill Miller, CEO at MED.

He continued: "The new members of staff are in operator, administration and technician roles, which are vital to our ongoing plans and we anticipate adding to their numbers in the coming months".

The 350m2 purpose built cleanroom is state of the art and is located within the substantial facilities of the Fraunhofer IPMS campus.

Construction of the cleanroom was completed on time; equipment is in place and installation is already underway.

The toolset, delivered from ANS Korea in December, comprises polymer OLED based deposition and thin film encapsulation equipment for mass production.

Professor Leo of the Fraunhofer IPMS said: "We are glad that MED will be the first European company to manufacture production volumes of OLED displays".

"Dresden is an established centre for the semiconductor and polymer industries and by sighting its production centre here, MED will be able to take advantage of the pool of experience and knowledge within the local work force".

"We believe that there are great synergies between MED and other OLED activities and hope that more production facilities will open in the future".
