AOT of Taiwan has developed a novel tricolour ChipLED surface-mount LED that allows next-generation handset and PDA designers to mix separate red, green and blue light sources in any combination This makes it easy for a manufacturer to select a backlighting colour to differentiate its products, allowing colours to change based on a particular application

The AOT-1206-3D-RGB03 ChipLED is intended primarily for backlighting and status indicators in handheld devices such as mobile phones and PDAs.

In handsets, for example, separate colours can indicate incoming SMS messages, e-mail, stock news, and even identify different callers.

In addition to handhelds, the availability of an unlimited range of illumination colours provides a new degree of design flexibility in many other applications such as backlighting and status indication in office and industrial equipment and home appliances.

It features high-efficiency LED chips at 20mA for red 60-100mcd, for blue 90-130mcd and for green 160-220mcd - to provide the highest brightness at lowest power consumption for handheld products.

The tricolour LED features a four-terminal common anode and is housed in a 1206 housing 3.0 x 2.0 x 0.8mm ChipLED package and is perfect for pickup by automated manufacturing equipment.

The parts are available on a standard 12mm tape 3000 pieces per reel and sealed in moisture barrier bags.
