Altec Electronic has released a device it reckons is the smallest GSM socket modem worldwide with a compact size of 64.5 x 26.5mm.

This complete socket modem with integrated MMCX antenna connector, internal or external SIM card reader and serial interface accelerates time to market for embedded wireless solutions.

Both 3 and 5V versions are available.

Dual-band EGSM 900/1800MHz with GPRS Class 8 is supported, along with TCP/IP and multiplexing protocols.

Operating temperature range is from -30 to +85C.

The Altec GSM socket modem is pin-to-pin compatible with the company's analogue, ISDN and LAN modules, and is available from MRC Components.
