Toshiba Module Group is using Microtune's MicroTuner MT2060 single-chip tuner in the expanded European brand offering of its personal entertainment notebook PCs.

Toshiba Module Group is using Microtune's MicroTuner MT2060 single-chip tuner in the expanded European brand offering of its personal entertainment notebook PCs Microtune's MT2060 tuner is engineered to deliver superior digital TV reception, based on the European digital TV standard (called DVB-T), and its miniature size permits it to be easily integrated into the sleek, stylish portable designs of Toshiba's notebook computers

Toshiba's notebook PCs are in production now.

"The Toshiba Module Group and Microtune codeveloped the DVB-T TV module for the multimedia notebook PC", said James A Fontaine, President and CEO of Microtune.

"The Toshiba Module Group deployed our earlier-generation MT2050 tuners in its modules for personal entertainment notebooks targeted for the U.S.

Now its newest models incorporate our latest digital tuner technology in preparation for the dramatic growth expected for the European digital convergence market".

"The combination of our state-of-the-art RF technology and the sophisticated systems expertise of the Toshiba Module Group continues to result in advanced and innovative PCs for an increasingly digital world".

Toshiba's brand of personal entertainment notebook PCs offers users a four-in-one entertainment experience.

It combines digital TV, audio, DVD recorder and PC functionality in a single portable platform, eliminating the need for multiple consumer electronics devices.

"With the rollout of the new models for Europe, Toshiba is evolving its notebook PCs to better enable consumers to enjoy and handle multiple kinds of digital content in a compelling and highly integrated PC-TV convergence product", Fontaine added.

The Toshiba Module Group, the engineering division of Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo, Japan), provides the systems electronics for Toshiba computers.

The Toshiba Module Group implemented Microtune's MT2060 as the tuner in a high-performance, production-ready radio frequency (RF) subsystem.

This RF subsystem can easily be factory-installed in different notebook PC models to support varying feature sets, streamlining mass production for DVB-T markets.

Based on Microtune's patented single-chip architecture, the MT2060 is a dual-conversion TV tuner that provides high-performance reception and tuning of off-air and cable RF signals.

The MT2060 handles multiple types of data and multimedia applications.

It offers support for, among several other worldwide reception standards, the digital video broadcast-terrestrial (DVB-T) standard, including the rigorous NorDig performance specification.

Its patented architecture, with best-in-class image rejection, addresses the technical problems of distortion across multiple active channels and interference to other signals, including those produced by the electronics inside the PC.

Designed for demanding next-generation digital TV products, the MicroTuner MT2060 chip is engineered to produce superior video and sound quality.
