Netgear chooses shipset for 802.11g home networks

Netgear has selected the industry-leading Marvell Libertas 802.11g wireless LAN chipset solution for its new IEEE802.11g home networking solutions.

Netgear has selected the industry-leading Marvell Libertas 802.11g wireless LAN chipset solution for its new IEEE802.11g home networking solutions.

Netgear selected Marvell's 802.11g home gateway solution based on its high-level of integration and its ability to allow Netgear to accelerate the widespread adoption of 54Mbit/s 802.11g connectivity.

The Marvell Libertas family offers the industry's broadest portfolio of 802.11g chipsets, software, and reference designs.

It includes the Marvell AP-32 reference design for 802.11g wireless home gateways and routers.

"AP-32 is optimised to enable ODM and OEM customers to provide high-performance, cost-effective 802.11g wireless home gateway solutions in the smallest software memory and hardware footprint possible", stated Dr James C Chen, Marvell's Wireless Product Marketing Manager.

The reference design includes support for 802.11g 54Mbit/s connectivity, WPA security protocol, 802.11g/802.11b mixed-mode operation, Marvell's award winning Virtual Cable Tester (VCT) diagnostic technology and upcoming IEEE wireless standard features.

In addition, it offers Marvell's flexible software architecture that allows customers to easily add capabilities such as NAT, Firewall, VPN pass-through and parental control for a more feature-rich wireless home gateways and routers.
