A new suite of 802.11a/g WLAN solutions targets high speed mobile consumer devices including cellular handsets, gaming devices, PDAs, and emerging home entertainment multimedia client devices Several consumer electronics OEMs are developing the industry's highest performance, most cost-effective solutions based on Marvell Consumer WLAN products

The Consumer WLAN portfolio includes power and size optimised multimode WLAN solutions that do not require external power amplifiers or filters.

Additionally, the product suite is fully 802.11i and 802.11e ready, thereby offering advanced security and QoS.

Furthermore, Marvell's advanced co-existence architecture encompasses support for both cellular RF technologies and WPAN technologies such as Bluetooth.

Marvell led the industry with the highest integration, most extensible multiband WLAN access point and gateway chipset.

Marvell's new consumer 802.11a/g WLAN solution portfolio incorporates microwatt transceiver technology along with an integrated high performance ARM9 for application processing which allows service providers and consumer electronics OEM's to differentiate and enhance their products.

"Smallest form factor implementation of low power 802.11a/g, is key for large scale adoption in consumer devices", commented Ken Furer, Senior Semiconductor Analyst at IDC.

"The ability to combine storage and WLAN technologies enhances Marvell's value proposition for consumer product OEMs".

"Size, power and extensibility have so far prevented aggressive adoption of WLAN in cellular phones, gaming devices and digital home entertainment devices", said Balaji Baktha, General Manager of Marvell's Embedded and Emerging Business Unit.

"Marvell's ultracompact consumer WLAN technology along with our comprehensive roadmap enables OEM's to embed WLAN in these devices without trading off flexibility or performance".

The emergence of new consumer usage models in the home and the advent of portable entertainment platforms are dependent on a new class of wireless and storage devices.

Marvell's industry leading storage technology, coupled with the consumer WLAN product suite enables consumers to experience high quality audio video and internet content anywhere in the home.

"Our industry leadership in storage, along with our consumer wireless technology uniquely positions us to deliver ultra portable consumer digital entertainment solutions to make a whole new class of converged entertainment appliances possible", continued Baktha.
