Novec fluids clean Swiss watches
Two leading names in the Swiss watch industry have recently replaced their old cleaning processes, to adopt a faster and more efficient system featuring Novec Engineered Fluids, from 3M.
German manufacturers switch to green cleaning
Tetronik and Nerb Elektronik have joined the growing number of electronics component manufacturers switching to a cleaning process system using Novec Engineered Fluids.
HFE-based, Novec Engineered Fluids are ideal for use in these electronics processes where their low surface tension provide the good wetting and penetration properties needed for effective cleaning.
They have proven highly effective in processes to remove both cleanable and 'no-clean' fluxes and, with their low toxicity, non-flammability and zero ODP characteristics, Novec fluids deliver the optimum balance of performance, safety and environmental properties.
The automated cosolvent cleaning process adopted by Jaltek Systems uses ultrasonic technology in a Kerry Microsolve machine.
It uses a mixture of the safe Novec solvent and a hydrocarbon solvating agent in the boiling sump.
Printed circuit boards emerge ionically clean and free from the white residues associated with aqueous and some single solvent cleaning processes.
Leon Dixon, Director of Technology at Jaltek Systems commented, "When we appraised various cleaning systems, the cosolvent process proved very effective for the types of assemblies we manufacture.
On a daily basis we handle complex surface mount PCB assemblies and require an effective cleaning system for chip scale packages and no clean fluxes.
As packaging technologies continue the drive towards miniaturisation we needed a cleaning solution, which would handle our technology path, and this cosolvent process became a clear choice".
With a ban on the general use of HCFC-solvents being implemented at the end of 2001, 3M Novec Engineered Fluids are approved and effective high performance, nonflammable and low toxicity solvent alternatives for a wide variety of applications, including precision and electronics cleaning.
They are distributed in the UK by Samuel Banner and Co.
