Multi-Tech Systems has agreed on terms to take over the manufacture and distribution of Conexant's SocketModem business.

Multi-Tech Systems has agreed on terms to take over the manufacture and distribution of Conexant's SocketModem business.

The transition will allow Multi-Tech to consolidate a position as the number one modem supplier of embedded modems worldwide.

Multi-Tech will manufacture the SocketModem product line with the identical form, fit and function, and will retain the same Conexant marketing and manufacturing part numbers for the SocketModems, enabling customers to maintain any current agency certifications on their products.

Multi-Tech will continue to incorporate Conexant chipsets in its SocketModem product line.

In addition, Multi-Tech will be able to distribute the SocketModem product line through Conexant's and Multi-Tech's worldwide distribution channel, as well as provide direct customer support.

Multi-Tech's embedded communication line now consists of Conexant's SocketModem and Multi-Tech ModemModule products, which are single components that add modem and Internet connectivity to any device with a minimum of development time and expense.

Developed for applications that periodically need to send and receive data, embedded communications products fit the rapidly expanding new generation of devices that utilise modem communications independent of a PC or other external computer.

Multi-Tech's embedded modem line includes: the Multi-Tech ModemModule global line of socket-mountable modules offering complete V.90/V.34/V.32bis serial and parallel data/fax/voice capabilities including models meeting medical and industrial specifications; the Multi-Tech ModemModule IP Internet ready global line of socket-mountable modules offering complete V.92/V.90/V.34/V.32bis serial data/fax/voice capabilities with V.34 fax also available; and the Multi-Tech SocketModem line (formerly Conexant SocketModem) of socket-mountable modules offering complete V.90/V.34/V.32bis serial or parallel data/fax/voice capabilities.

Multi-Tech's SocketModem and ModemModule families of pin-to-pin compatible modules allow OEMs to integrate a wide range of modem functions and speeds into various product platforms.

Utilising a variety of SocketModem modules, systems designers can now easily integrate multiple data, fax and voice modem features within a single design.

The small size of these modem engines (1 x 2.5in) makes them ideally suited for applications where users demand remote communications.
