Honeywell signs up for embedded code generation

A The MathWorks product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jun 9, 2003

Honeywell ES and S is to deploy embedded code generation technology based on Matlab and Simulink to develop increasingly complex airborne software and systems.

Honeywell Engines, Systems and Services (ES and S) is deploying The MathWorks embedded code generation technology, based on Matlab and Simulink, to develop increasingly complex airborne software and systems that meet the FAA's RTCA/DO-178B Level A certification requirements.

Honeywell joins Motorola, Jaguar, and BAE Systems in a growing list of companies that are using The MathWorks production code products.

Glen High, Chief Engineer for Controls Integration, Honeywell ES and S said, "The MathWorks embedded code generation products fit within our safety-critical software development framework and provide productivity gains even though software is becoming more complex and more pervasive within modern aircraft engine controllers".

The MathWorks provides a complete development environment that employs executable graphical models for specifying and implementing embedded software, rather than traditional methods that rely on paper documents and manual coding.

Embedded code generation eliminates the long delays that traditionally occur between software specification and embedded code creation.

One of the key benefits to this approach is that specification and design defects are caught much earlier in the software life cycle than before, thus saving development time, cost, and effort.

Honeywell can now generate, test, and maintain software functionality of increased complexity over 20+ year life cycles.

"We have worked closely with Honeywell ES and S during their evaluation to define a time and cost-savings process that joins our code generation expertise with their demanding, safety-critical applications.

We are pleased to continue to support Honeywell in this effort and truly welcome our expanding relationship", said Richard Rovner, Vice President of Marketing at The MathWorks.

The MathWorks products currently used by Honeywell include Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow, Stateflow Coder, Simulink Report Generator, Real-Time Workshop, Real-Time Workshop Embedded Coder, and Simulink Performance Tools.

The MathWorks partnership and product integration with T-Vec Technologies, a leading provider of automatic test vector generation tools, was also an important factor in Honeywell's decision.
