"Numerical computing with Matlab" is a new textbook written by Cleve Moler, The MathWorks founder, Chief Scientist and creator of Matlab.

The textbook emphasises the informed use of mathematical software, with topics including matrix computation, interpolation and zero finding, differential equations, random numbers and Fourier analysis.

It is available immediately in both print and electronic versions.

The print version of the book has been published by the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the electronic version is available from The MathWorks website.

Designed to guide professors and students through the principles on which Matlab was founded, the textbook provides an introductory course in numerical methods, Matlab and technical computing.

Suitable for both new and experienced Matlab users, "Numerical computing with Matlab" incorporates more than 200 exercises based on modifying and extending the programs within a collection of more than 70 M-files (Matlab files).

"Since the company's inception, The MathWorks has remained focused on providing tomorrow's technology leaders with the best tools available today", said Cleve Moler.

"This textbook will provide both novice and expert Matlab users with an understanding of the numerical methods implemented in Matlab, helping them to achieve greater technological advancements and better prepare them for careers as engineers and scientists".

Additionally, The MathWorks provides an academic website that includes tools and content tailored to suit the academic community's needs.

The site includes the Faculty Centre, a resource for educators that provides links to Matlab course materials and recommended product groups, as well as listings of the more than 700 Matlab based textbooks currently in print.

The Student Centre includes tutorials that outline how to get started using Matlab and Simulink, links to global job opportunities that require Matlab skills, and information on companion software.
