The University of Glasgow has adopted the first UK campus-wide licence for Matlab, Simulink and other key toolboxes and blocksets from The MathWorks.

The University of Glasgow has adopted the first UK campus-wide licence for Matlab, Simulink and other key toolboxes and blocksets from The MathWorks.

The annual licence will give every faculty, staff member and student on campus unlimited access to the latest products on university owned equipment.

It also provides the university with unlimited use for classroom instruction and off-site access for university staff on personally owned equipment.

"We have become aware of a growing commercial need for engineers with Simulink knowledge", said Yasmine Mather of the Engineering Department, University of Glasgow.

"This licence will provide a broader availability of all key tools to the full range of academic disciplines, from engineers to the business and medical faculties, ensuring that all graduates have the right skills going into industry".

"A key benefit is the ability to introduce first year students to The MathWorks products".

The campus-wide licence offers streamlined administration through a central point and provision for both stand-alone and network options.

All products under the licence are kept current so the most recent versions are available across teaching and research to all staff and students.

Application-specific toolboxes provide specialist functionality for a diverse set of tasks including image processing, statistics, financial modelling, bioinformatics and mechanical system modelling.

"The introduction of this licensing option underscores our ongoing commitment to supporting academia", said Sham Ahmed, Managing Director at The MathWorks.

"By providing an easily-administered, cost-effective solution, we are enabling universities to more easily provide the tools and training that students require for successful careers in industry".
