The MathWorks is sponsoring a new software design category at the second annual Innovation in Engineering Awards.

Entries are now being invited for the second annual Innovation in Engineering Awards, which will be presented at a gala ceremony at the Institution of Engineering and Technology HQ, Savoy Place, London on 11th October 2006.

The awards are the only multisector awards dedicated to recognising outstanding innovation in engineering.

Innovation guru and TV personality Adam Hart-Davis threw out a challenge companies to prove they are at the forefront of innovation in software design.

Speaking at the launch of the annual Innovation in Engineering Awards 2006 he said: "The UK has a great tradition of innovation and I look forward to seeing how today's companies are meeting the challenge of creating and implementing effective ideas".

The Software Design Category is new to the 2006 awards and sponsored by The MathWorks.

Entries must describe innovation in the design of software for applications in engineering.

The judges will look to reward innovation in the techniques used in the software design process such as: modelling, simulation, requirements capture and linking, testing and formal proof.

Sham Ahmed, UK MD, The MathWorks says: "These awards are an excellent opportunity to reward engineering excellence and raise the profile of engineering in the UK and the MathWorks is pleased to support any such initiative".

"Innovative, progressive companies deserve to get recognition from one of the largest engineering and technology institutions in the world".
