Multi-Contact has a range of lightweight 1.5 and 2mm plug connectors designed to meet the stringent safety and reliability standards which are applied in medical applications.

Multi-Contact has a range of lightweight 1.5 and 2mm plug connectors designed to meet the stringent safety and reliability standards which are applied in medical applications Conforming to DIN42802 standards, the connectors are electrically touch-protected and are designed to be incompatible with mains connectors to eliminate any possibility of accidental electrical shock

This, for example, ensures that the 2mm model is ideal for medical applications, including ECG electrodes and external cardiac pacemakers.

The use of heat-resistant insulation materials and gold plated brass corrosion-resistant metal surfaces also enables the connectors to withstand the adverse temperature (up to 134C) and humidity environments encountered in steam autoclaves for the sterilisation of medical equipment.

Combining space saving with flexibility, both connector types are available with reversed configuration and neither can be mated with the other.

All connecting leads feature small conductor cross-sections minimising mechanical strain and are also available separately for self-assembly.

"Multi-Contact is one of the first companies to meet new standard directives required by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in the United States", comments Vic Lavell, managing director of Multi-Contact (UK), "and with similar levels of statutory regulation expected to be introduced in the UK, we are confident of being at the forefront of this market".

He continues: "One important feature of these connectors is that they cannot be incorrectly mated.

On the continent, power sockets normally accept 4mm diameter round pins which means that any medical device with this sized connector could inadvertently be plugged directly into the mains.

With their specified diameters, our shrouded connectors eliminate this hazard.

Furthermore, with its reverse mating the 1.5mm version features the socket on the lead with panel mounting plug to further enhance safety".

The connectors employ Multi-Contact's proven proprietary Multilam technology for the very highest standards of contact reliability and wear resistance.

Supplied in standard lengths of 50, 100, 150 and 200cm, the leads and plugs are available in a choice of colour options.
