The CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS v2, OEM Edition is the industry's first integrated hardware development suite for the Symbian operating system.

The CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS v2, OEM Edition is the industry's first integrated hardware development suite for the Symbian operating system.

The OEM Edition reduces the development time needed to create and rollout new smartphones to market.

It offers advanced hardware developers the ability to perform stop-mode kernel-level debugging of Symbian OS v7 using JTAG hardware.

The suite also offers developers the ability to debug Symbian application framework code residing in ROM, equipping developers with a comprehensive range of tools to develop Symbian applications for UIQ and Series60-based phones.

Developers creating new phones, porting Symbian OS to new hardware, or writing device drivers will immediately experience more rapid development times from these advanced Metrowerks tools.

Metrowerks popular MetroTRK (target reference kernel) is also included with the OEM Edition, which allows developers working with Symbian reference platforms and Symbian development kits to debug applications on a target device without JTAG connections using a serial cable inside of the CodeWarrior graphical debugger, a vast improvement over the GNU debug tools historically used for application-level debugging by Symbian OS developers.

CodeWarrior Development Suite for Symbian OS v2, OEM Edition builds on the well known Metrowerks C++ support for Symbian OS.

"Until today, licensees developing new Symbian OS phones relied on several independent tools to create their Symbian OS platforms and devices.

CodeWarrior Development Studio for Symbian OS, OEM Edition, helps boost developer productivity providing the power to accelerate development of a complete wireless product", said David Wood, Executive Vice President, Partnering, Evangelism and Research, Symbian.

The CodeWarrior tool suite helps developers shorten their development cycle and move new commercial devices to market quickly.

This release of the CodeWarrior Development Studio aligns with the Metrowerks focus to help developers more aggressively gain a critical competitive edge in today's rapidly changing wireless marketplace.

By building Symbian OS kernel-level debug support directly into the CodeWarrior IDE and debugger, Metrowerks has helped make it easy for Symbian's licensee developers to create new devices fast and cost effectively, helping speed the time-to-market for wireless products.

OEM edition builds on Metrowerks commitment to the Symbian ecosystem, combining the robust CodeWarrior application development tools with a comprehensive embedded, hardware creation solution.

These integrated, end-to-end solutions are complemented with professional services and the Metrowerks Managed Developer Programme.

"As a developer working on next-generation Symbian OS devices, Metrowerks' OEM tools save us tremendous time", said Matt Millar, CTO, Mobile Innovation.

"Unlike any other software tools on the market, Metrowerks' complete solutions suite allows us to debug Symbian code residing in ROM, which is the best feature set available to help us get new products out the door".

"Our commitment to the Symbian OS community is underscored with this release of the CodeWarrior development tool.

Symbian OS is the smartphone platform choice of for the major mobile phone manufacturers, and CodeWarrior is an ideal development solution for developers wanting to create new Symbian OS-based devices", said D'Arcy Salzmann, Wireless Industry Manager, Metrowerks.

"CodeWarrior for Symbian OS is a cornerstone of our wireless business, which includes software and hardware development tools for industry leading platforms, and professional services for wireless software developers, mobile phone manufacturers and network operators".

CodeWarrior for Symbian OS, OEM Edition is shipping at a suggested retail price of US $4495 for a single developer licence.
