The Multicore Association has named its founding members and announced its official incorporation as a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation.

The founding members include ARC International, Codeplay Software, eSOL, Freescale Semiconductor, Imperas, Intel Corporation, Mentor Graphics, NEC Electronics America, PolyCore Software, QNX, Teja Technologies Tilera Corporation and Wind River.

The Multicore Association is structured to provide three levels of membership including executive board, working group, and university members.

The executive member helps determine the overall direction of the organisation.

Working group members are eligible to work on any of the working groups.

University members may participate in any of the development work.

The Multicore Association supports the multicore ecosystem including vendors of processor IP, multicore chips, operating systems and software development tools, as well as application and system developers.

Currently, the organisation is set up with three working groups: Communications API (CAPI), Debug API, and Transparent Inter Process Communication (TIPC) protocol.

By the third-quarter of 2007, CAPI will provide a standardised API for communication between closely distributed cores and/or processors in embedded systems.

The Debug API will identify and tie high-level requirements for multicore debugging to specific requirements on underlying infrastructures, such as protocols, runtime layers, and operating systems.

The TIPC protocol supports intra cluster communication.
