Meritec's new offering is designed to support channel-based switched fabric I/O technology and industry standards for continuous flow "serial" link computing.
The assembly provides for the continuous uninterrupted flow of serial data.
Meritec's new cable assembly technology is based on direct attach methodology where the signal wires in the cable are attached directly to the connector's contacts, eliminating the need for an interstitial printed circuit board.
This not only removes cost from the assembly but avoids the undesirable effects the PCB can have on the signal integrity at higher data rates.
Meritec's Direct Attach 4X cable assembly allows for high-datarate transfers of better than 2.5Gbit/s per link/channel at lengths up to 10m on 24 AWG cable.
Direct attach methodology offers crosstalk performance of better than 1.0%, which has not been achieved in 4X designs using internal printed circuit boards for wire termination.
Greater bandwidth and exceptional overall electrical performance are also favourable byproducts of the design.
Meritec's Direct Attach 12X cable assembly allows for high-datarate transfers of better than 2.5Gbit/s per link/channel at lengths up to 10m on 24 AWG cable.
Direct attach methodology offers crosstalk performance of better than 1.0%, which has not been achieved in 12X designs using internal printed circuit boards for wire termination.
Greater bandwidth and exceptional overall electrical performance are also favourable byproducts of the design.
The use of three lengths of 4X cable provides greater flexibility than one bundled 12X cable.
Both the Direct Attach 4X and Direct Attach 12X are offered with passive equalisation circuits built into the connectors back-shells to achieve higher datarate transfers (above 2.5Gbit/s) and/or longer cable assembly lengths (longer than 10m).
The connector interface used in the Direct Attach series of cable assemblies is that selected by the various standards organisations responsible for InfiniBand, 10G Fiber Channel, SATA, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and 10G Ethernet.
