Vikram Shanbhag, Frost and Sullivan Research Analyst, said: "The need of the hour is modular machines that offer scalable output, low set up times, short batch production, and frequent changeovers." Responding to the report, Paul Rooimans said that Mydata's customers had been giving the SMT placement equipment manufacturer the same feedback.
"Changovers cost time that our customers can ill afford," he said.
"EMS providers in particular need to be able to produce small batches for their clients, and then move straight onto another job.
They don't want to have to take any longer than necessary loading component feeders, nor do they want to have to use different machines for different job types." "We've been working with researchers and industry so we know that the market needs a range of placement machines and accessories that are able to deal with the rapid changovers required for smaller batch production, prototyping, and new product introductions," Rooimans added.
"Like any manufacturer, our customers aspire to have all of their machines working all of the time, and that's what we're working towards too.".
