The collaboration with M-Systems is part of TI's overall strategy to address growing security concerns among service providers, consumers and wireless original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
This integrated support is crucial for secured applications and enables secure boot up from Mobile DiskOnChip within OMAP-based devices, ensuring that the operating system (OS) image is correctly and securely programmed into Flash memory at the factory.
Secure boot also allows software and the OS image to be authenticated prior to execution, preventing unauthorised modification to the code in addition to preventing the execution of forged or "spoofed" software code.

M-Systems has released the 1Gbit Mobile DiskOnChip G3, its second multilevel cell (MLC) NAND-based product.
TI's latest OMAP processor will enable manufacturers to design secure mobile handsets with longer battery life.
Cellphones that include the OMAP1710 processor will also provide an ideal mix of multimedia features and cost-effectiveness, making them more attractive to the high-volume market for multimedia feature phones.
"Based on application requirements and customer demand, support for Mobile DiskOnChip is integrated into ROM code in order to further enable a high level of security, reinforcing our strategy to provide secure, high-performance, low-power, highly-integrated products for mobile devices", said Paul Werp, Worldwide Marketing Director for TI's OMAP platform.

Mobile DiskOnChip, selected by EDN, the premier design magazine of the electronics industry, as one of the top products of 2003, is a high-capacity NAND-based nonvolatile memory (NVM) solution.
It is targeted specifically for multimedia mobile handsets and provides multimedia mobile handset manufacturers with advanced Flash technology.
Mobile DiskOnChip features high performance and reliability and an ultrathin controller and is equipped with a built-in boot block enabling it to completely replace legacy NOR devices within a smaller physical space and reduce overall expenditure on memory.
Within feature rich handsets, Mobile DiskOnChip can be used to store both the operating system (OS) and application code, as well as user data such as still pictures, video content, personal information manager (PIM) content, games and music.
Currently, four out of the five leading handset manufacturers have chosen to integrate high-capacity, high-density Mobile DiskOnChip within their products.
Additionally, leading PDA manufacturers incorporate Mobile DiskOnChip to support the newest applications and functionality.
