Mobile digital rights management specialist Secure Digital Container has developed a DRM application for deployment on high-density SIM cards powered by the MegaSIM platform.

Mobile digital rights management specialist Secure Digital Container (SDC) has developed a DRM application for deployment on high-density SIM cards powered by M-Systems' MegaSIM platform The combination of high-density storage and SIM-bound mobile DRM technology and SDC's Symbian-based and Java-based Music Player is set to protect music, games, video and other multimedia content from unauthorised sharing and copying on mobile handsets, ultimately enabling smarter mobile services

SDC's patented and SIM-bound mobile DRM technology enables content to be packaged with code as a single object, both preinstalled and distributed on the MegaSIM platform for high-density SIM cards.

This SDC DRM implementation is endorsed by content owners, such as major recording labels and used by MNOs on three continents.

It is supported by a wide range of handset models, enabling subscribers to transfer their paid-for content from one handset to another.

MNOs can build new churn-reducing business models by offering SDC's MegaSIM empowered DRM on a subscription or a conditional access basis.

Leveraging M-Systems' Flash expertise with its field-proven M-Safe crypto core technology, globally trusted in millions of smart cards, the MegaSIM platform, incorporating M-Systems' TrueFFS Flash file management, combines high-density Flash storage (64Mbyte to 1Gbyte), processing power, high-speed data protocols and crypto functionality.

M-Systems' MegaSIM platform far enhances typical SIM architecture while maintaining full compatibility with legacy industry standards.

SIM cards powered by M-Systems' MegaSIM platform, such as M-Systems' M-SIM MegaSIM series, will provide MNOs with an intuitive, ubiquitous interface and a high-density, high-speed platform.

By deploying these SIM cards, MNOs can increase revenue streams, while at the same time offer a new sales channel for software developers and, last but not least, a smarter mobile usage experience for subscribers.

"We are happy to collaborate with M-Systems on this unique offering to the mobile market", said Michael Bornhausser, CEO of SDC.

"The ability to store content safely on a high-density SIM card will drive development of further content to mobile phones, as recording labels and games developers can be assured that their content will be secured against unauthorised use".

"As a result, subscribers will be able to enjoy a richer variety of content on their mobile devices and can change handsets without inconvenient content copy or download procedures just with the SIM card".

"By offering high-density Flash memory, smart card security, high performance and processing power all within the SIM, M-Systems' MegaSIM platform brings a unique value proposition to the mobile ecosystem", said Simone Cavallo, General Manager of M-Systems' MNO Division.

"As data services become an important growth engine and smart, abundant MegaSIM platform-based storage becomes a more common means of differentiation for MNOs, it is crucial to have advanced DRM capabilities, like those from SDC, in place to provide for smarter mobile services".
