Embedded Flash drive hits the streets
A new solution addresses the special onboard storage needs of advanced, in-car and portable navigation systems.
M-Systems and Centrality Communications have announced the availability of a new solution to address the special onboard storage needs of advanced, in-car and portable navigation systems.
"The newest generation of GPS systems can now benefit from a reliable, cost effective, onboard storage solution for embedded maps and multimedia content".
"Because these navigation systems are oftentimes in motion, they are subject to vibration and temperature extremes".
"Obviously, the components within need to be reliable and trustworthy", said David Wang, Centrality's Director of Marketing.
"In addition to their reliable performance within the in-dash car environment, M-Systems' mDOC H-series embedded Flash drives have advanced security features that can protect maps from tampering or accidental deletion".
The multilevel cell (MLC) NAND Flash-based mDOC H-series product line from M-Systems is now being offered as the solid-state boot code and data storage solution for applications based on the Atlas navigation processor platform from Centrality Communications.
As a scalable solution available in a wide range of densities, the mDOC H-series embedded Flash drive provides designers the flexibility to easily tailor the amount of onboard storage for software, maps and content to the requirements of specific geographical markets without the need for additional product design efforts.
The Atlas navigation processor platform allows product developers to quickly and cost-effectively create a complete GPS navigation system based on the Atlas processor family from Centrality.
Because it incorporates full-featured navigation and personal multimedia functionality on a single chip, the Atlas processor offers exceptional value for manufacturers and, ideally, the customer.
"We are pleased to join forces with Centrality to help accelerate the adoption of advanced navigation technology by the automotive industry through a cost-effective, smart storage design", said Noam Kedem, Vice President of Marketing for M-Systems.
"mDOC allows manufacturers producing the next generation of Atlas-based navigation systems to tap into low-cost MLC NAND Flash without sacrificing reliability or high performance".
"Together, we make navigation and infotainment storage smarter".
The Atlas navigation processor platform from Centrality Communications and the mDOC H-series embedded Flash drive from M-Systems are available now.
