NMI expands with Swindon office
The National Microelectronics Institute has opened a new office in Swindon to support its mission of creating a strong and vibrant semiconductor industry community across the UK and Ireland.
The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI), the UK's semiconductor industry trade body, has opened a new office in Swindon to support its mission of creating a strong and vibrant semiconductor industry community across the UK and Ireland NMI's CEO Derek Boyd said: "In recent years we have seen strong demand for the services that we provide and have successively expanded our remit to cover the entire semiconductor value chain from design and manufacturing to all suppliers and stakeholders of the industry"

Julie Stockwin, an Industry Consultant for the NMI noted: "The office in Swindon is a good complement to our established office just outside Edinburgh where we have been operating since 1996".
"Even in the current climate of outsourcing to lower cost countries, there is still a large density of semiconductor design activity across the whole of the UK and Ireland".
"We have witnessed a growing awareness of the benefits of closer collaboration and knowledge exchange in noncompetitive areas, an activity that NMI are well placed to facilitate".
James Foster, COO of Oxford Semiconductor said: "There are many challenges that face UK semiconductor companies, and we welcome the news that a pragmatic and pro-active organisation like the NMI is committing resources to help to reinforce the industry here".
