Continuing its programme of technical and business forums, The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) is organising an event focused on the verification challenges in IC design.
The service has been trialled and tailored during the last 12 months by three major manufacturers within the NMI membership.
At www.globalstockroom.com, wafer fabs wishing to locate a part can browse a virtual stockroom of spare parts available from participating manufacturing sites throughout the world and trade online for price and delivery of the part required.
The seller receives a simple request-for-quote email and the prospective buyer responds to the offer.
Multiple user levels, with different access privileges, can be configured at each site.
Manufacturers wishing to sell spare parts can provide GlobalStockroom with available stock listings in a variety of standard formats, including text files, spreadsheets and XML feeds.
Alternatively GlobalStockroom will provide a standard template that can be run off any ERP, stock control or back office systems.
All information received is treated in complete confidence.
David Law, Productivity Specialist, NMI said: "The availability of spare parts is a constant issue for wafer fabs".
"It's a fact of life that machines break down and downtime ensues or parts simply become obsolete GlobalStockroom's procurement engine aims to help users find and sell spare parts be it an O-ring, a pump or a PCB for a precision implanter as fast as possible with the minimum of fuss".
"Inventory rationalisation was the other prime goal in the development of GlobalStockroom", said Alan Routledge, Managing Director, Used4Semicon: "Carrying large stocks of slow moving, redundant or consumable parts is costly and inefficient, the shared marketplace that GlobalStockroom creates will help manufacturers reduce inventories of commonly held parts at separate locations either within an organisation or across different organisations".
