Forum to focus on IC verification challenges
Continuing its programme of technical and business forums, The National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) is organising an event focused on the verification challenges in IC design.
Chaired by NMI's John Moor and hosted by semiconductor sector research analysts Merill Lynch, this first meeting was attended by senior operations management from many of the UK's leading fabless companies, including CSR, Jennic and picoChip.
A wide range of topics discussed included supplier relations, information exchange, logistics, compliance and IP.
Moor, himself a former fabless operations manager with ClearSpeed Technology, commented: "The NMI is acutely aware of the challenges faced by our fabless community in the global supply chain, and helping to improve competitiveness is a key objective in the creation of an effective peer support group here in the UK.
We understand the contribution the fabless sector makes to the UK economy and the potential for growth it offers, it's our aim to make sure it's recognised".
He continued: "Our membership has played a vital role in getting the new network off the ground".
"We've been polling our fabless members for some time in order to identify the full scope of the new network's activity and the response has been tremendous".
"The first meeting identified four key workstreams and elected leaders for each, we already expect increased attendance from NMI's fabless members at the next meeting".
